Aloha from the 50th State of Hawaii.
>
> At the end of March 2008, Molokai Ranch dba Molokai Properties Limited, closed its doors, layed off more than 120 staff, as well as close all access to their properties leading to the beach indefinitely to the native Hawaiian of Molokai because of 5 years of delays and road blocks in getting their permits approved to develop and expand their resorts. Molokai is the 3rd smallest inhabited island of all the Hawaiian Islands. The Island population is approximately 4000. Molokai properties operates Molokai Lodge, Kaupoa Beach Village, the Kaluakoi Golf Course, Moanalua Gas Station, Moanalua Tri-Plex Theater, Cattle Rearing, and the Company’’s Island Maintenance Operation. The relation this story has to China is that Molokai Ranch is said to be owned and operated by foreign investors from China who contracts the management work to Molokai Properties Limited. People in Hawaii are questioning whether or not a foreign investor can be held accountable for closing most of the critical infrastructure and business holding on island, as a way of getting back to the people of the Island who oppose any further development on the Island. If foreign investors can create this type of Chaos on a small island in Hawaii, can you imagine impact China will leave on the United States when they dont get what they want ??????? Just a little fruit for thought.

I’ve never heard that before so I find it doubtful. Also, anytime ANY ONE entity is the main employer there can be chaos. Imagine the plight of coal miners whose lives were completely controlled by coal companies and their "stores". It has nothing to do with China.

Just food for thought, 20-30 years ago, people were saying the same thing about Japan owning the US. It’s a "chicken little" thing, I think.

Not in the sense they hold title to it. They have invested in treasury notes just like countries all over the globe.

Yes. Look inside any and all one dollar stores. Look at most of the electronic gadgets out there. It goes on and on and so… yes, they do own a substantial part of this country and may wind up owning more.

Haven’t heard what the percent is, but whatever the amount any country owns of the United States, it’s more than the American people want to see happening. We should be investing in other counries making the US stronger, not other countries putting us in a place they can tell us what we have to do for them.

But, you have to consider, if G.M. closes a plant in somewhere, U.S.A., then the same problems will occur. People will have to move out to get a job, and the town will die. If you oppose the chinese from developing their property, they will take their money elsewhere, same as if you told GM or GE the same thing. No one, not even the federal government, has a responsibility to provide you with a job. That’s your problem, unless you live in a communist country. Then you can starve while having a job. If china tried that on a big scale, then we would stop buying their products. They don’t directly affect jobs in America. The 200 billion dollars a year we spend on chinese products, will go to American goods, creating more jobs, and would be a reverse of the past 20 years of loosing manufacturing jobs overseas, albeit in one big hurry. China, or Japan ( I thought they owned most of Hawaii?) can buy everything they want here. Do you expect them to take it with them when they leave? The jappanese own Rockefeller center in NYC, are they going to ship it to japan if they get mad at us? Same with Hawaii. They tried to take it once, now we sell it to them. We can take it back anytime. Look at argentina, and "nationalization" chavez took the oil companys share of production, which they bought, and "gave" it to the people. I.e. him.
