Where are good beach wedding locations in Northern California?

Posted on July 12th, 2010 by admin

I’m getting married next September, my fiance and I are having a hard time finding a location for the ceremony (of roughly 150 people). We want somewhere grassy overlooking the beach in Northern California. We are leaning more toward state owned property, that we can get a permit for. The locations we have looked at so far that are restaurants/golf clubs are far too pricey for us. If anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear them, I’m getting desperate!!! Thank you!

There is this place in Jennar (off of Hwy 1) it has a grassy area on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It is a bed and breakfast and just gorgeous! I honeymooned there. If you want, i could e-mail you a picture of it!

There is also a lighthouse down HWY 1 that is gorgeous and has everything you describe also in what you want.

Also, Bodega Bay is a great place, it is beautiful in that area in general.

Good Luck and e-mail me if you want those pictures or the name of the lighthouse, i would have to look up the name.

EDIT: Did you get the pictures? What did you think?

Well I guess that depends on how north you want to go. Trinidad in Humboldt County is a lovely little beach community about 40 min north of Eureka. They have a lovely state beach and there are a few restaurants around in town, as well many more down in Eureka. This area is know for it’s "Indian Summer" so the weather will be warm and mild in September.

And to the above posters the SF Bay Area =/= Northern California.

They have some good wedding and honeymoon locations listed here http://www.distinctivehoneymoons.com/secoes/destination/index.php?i=274 Even if you don’t want to do it at one of the resorts listed or use Distinctive Honeymoon’s services, it’s a really good list to just research the actual locations. We ended up doing this for our wedding and held it at a place not from from the Carneros Inn. :- )

How far North do you want to go? I know of a couple of places in what’s probably Central California if you’re interested.

My brother just drove into Bodega Bay, found a random cliff (about half way up to Jenner), and reserved it. We all stood (no room for chairs), but it was a short, pretty ceremony in the grass above the ocean.

You can also check Lover’s Point in Monterey (or Pacific Grove), but it’s in a little bit more of a tourist area and you’ll have people nearby!
